The Past

WVCH was conceived, engineered by James Tisdale ... one of this area's best radio Engineers.

It was first licensed to Chester, Pennsylvania, Mr. Tisdale's home town.

As the station was being constructed, the transmitter and tower were located at Toby Frams, Delaware County.

Jim Tisdale started assembling a staff:

• Program Director - Edna Whittington
• Announcer - Joe Pyne
• Announcer - Bill Deiderich
• Announcer - Tom Harvey

After several months working as a team with a goal, on April 5, 1948 while a clock was ticking, the RCA Transmitter was turned on. The studios and offices, in the Wolf Building on 3rd and Market Streets, in then thriving Chester, were filled with celebrities and notable personnel.

One of the first programs (weekly) was "From The Fraser REsuce Mission" in Philadelphia's Tenderloin District.

Note: Jim Tisdale had been an engineer on the Fraser Programs that had been aired on WIP.

Tom Harvey was the one staff member who had radio sales epxerience and immediately "went to work" hosting the morning program, then afternoons soliciting commercials for this new station that served the entire Delaware Valley.

Each new day was an exciting day for a group of young people, dedicated to radio broadcasting and reaching the third most populated area in the United States.

As the months and early years went on, additional people came and went which was normal for this business at that time.

One special new program added as "A Report on the Marcus Hook Baptist Church DVBS" and the live broadcast of their Sunday Morning Worship Service. This is still continuing to this day.

Now

WVCH radio continues steadfast in our presentation of the finest Pastors, Evangelists and Bible Teachers, serving the Greater Philadelphia Area.

With our studios and transmitter facilities located in Brookhaven, PA, we daily broadcast a series of programs that are considered, by the industry, as a model for Christian Radio. Please study and listen to our broadcast schedule. We promise to keep on keeping on exclaiming the Glory of God.

Looking for that blessed hope and the appearing of our great God and Savior christ Jesus -- Titus 2:13

After more than six years of zoning battles with those who opposed having WVCH, The Christian Station, in their township, we are still continuing our efforts to bring to reality that which The Federal Communications Commission has approved.

This zoning case, which should have been a routine victory for The Lord's work, was opposed in stronger terms than any. This team was led by the township solicitor, who had just previously represented an abortion clinic in suing Bill Devlin for opposing the abortion clinic.

He assembled, illegally, the two drug companies who were in the area. Rhone Poulenc, a major shareholder in Rorer, the firm that has developed RU486, the abortion pill, was a party to the suit. Joining the township and Rhone Poulenc was Sterling Drug, who manufactured the prostiglandin that had to be used with RU486.

Together, they paraded a string of "expert" witnesses, misrepresenting most of them.

We are thankful for each listener and pledge to continue offering the very best Bible Teachers, Pastors, and Evangelists to this Greater Philadelphia Area.
